Impact Doors

Impact Doors for Tampa Bay and Southwest Florida Homes

Impact doors are exterior doors tested as complete systems to resist wind-borne debris and hurricane wind pressure without opening a hole into the house. Storm Pro Window and Door installs impact-rated entry, French and sliding glass doors with in-house installers, and most door installations are finished in one day.

What makes impact doors hurricane-rated?

Each door is tested and approved as an assembly: glass, slab, frame, hinges, locks and sill together.

Laminated impact glass

Layers of glass bonded to a tough interlayer. If debris strikes it, the glass can crack but is designed to stay in the frame.

Multi-point locking where applicable

Many systems lock at the top, middle and bottom of the frame instead of one latch.

Design pressure (DP) rating

The pressure a product is certified to withstand, set by your home’s location, height and exposure.

Reinforced frames and hinges

Heavier framing keeps the slab attached and aligned under repeated wind loads.

Water-resistant sills

The threshold is a common leak point in wind-driven rain, so sills are part of the test.

Product approval

Does every hurricane-rated door need Florida Product Approval?

Yes. Every door Storm Pro installs on a permitted job carries a Florida Product Approval or an accepted local approval such as a Miami-Dade Notice of Acceptance (NOA). Look up any number in the Florida Building Commission product approval database. We list it on your permit and share it for insurance paperwork. Our Florida Product Approval and NOA guide explains the difference.

Which impact doors does Storm Pro install?

Pick the door type that fits the opening. Each page covers styles, configurations and common questions.

Single and double front doors, sidelites and transoms, and fiberglass slabs that look like real wood.
Hinged glass doors for lanai, patio and pool access, in in-swing or out-swing configurations.
Multi-panel patio doors with vinyl or aluminum frames for wide openings and heavy daily use.
Three or more panels that stack or pocket to open a wide lanai wall to the outdoors.
Sliding glass doors with wide stiles and rails for the look of French doors without the swing space.
Paint colors, wood-look stains, decorative glass and hardware to match your home’s exterior.

Why fiberglass with a polyurethane foam core?

Our fiberglass entry doors will not rot or warp like wood, and the polyurethane foam core slows heat moving into the house. Square edges and wood-grain textures give a crafted look, painted nearly any color or stained, with a factory finish that cuts upkeep.

When is it time to replace an exterior door?

  • Drafts, daylight or water around the frame or threshold

  • Sticking, dragging, rot or rust on the door or frame

  • Fogged or cracked glass

  • No impact rating, so the opening still depends on shutters or plywood

Entry and patio doors are often the largest unprotected openings on a home. Replacing them with hurricane-rated doors also moves you toward the full opening protection credit, which generally requires every glazed opening to be protected. See our wind mitigation guide.

How does Storm Pro install a new door?

Storm Pro secures the permit, protects your floors with drop cloths, removes and recycles the old door when possible, installs with our in-house crew and cleans up. We never install into a rotted or structurally unsound frame. Read the full impact door installation process, or browse door colors and finishes.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Impact doors are tested as complete systems (glass, slab, frame, hinges, locks and sill) to resist wind-borne debris and wind pressure. A regular exterior door has not passed impact testing, so in a wind-borne debris region it needs shutters or other approved protection during a storm.

Not on openings with approved impact-rated doors. That is why we say “No Shutters Required.” For the full opening protection insurance credit, every glazed opening generally needs approved protection, so plan windows and the garage door too.

In wind-borne debris regions, the Florida Building Code requires exterior glazed openings to be impact-resistant or protected. Much of coastal Tampa Bay and Southwest Florida falls in these zones, but the requirement depends on your address. The permit confirms what applies.

Price depends on door type, size, glass, finish, hardware and the condition of the opening, so we quote after measuring. Ask about 0% financing with approved credit and any current promotion.

A well-installed fiberglass impact door can last for decades because it resists rot, warping and rust. Manufacturers carry their own warranties, and Storm Pro backs the installation with a lifetime workmanship warranty.

Often, yes, but associations usually have their own approval process for exterior doors. Check with your HOA or condo board first. Our condo and HOA guide lists what to ask.
