Impact Window Installation: Our Step-by-Step Process
Impact window installation at Storm Pro Window and Door follows a clear sequence: free quote, precise measurement, permit and product approval paperwork, custom manufacturing, installation by our in-house crew, and a final inspection. We protect your floors, remove and recycle old windows when possible, and clean up before we leave.
Who Handles Your Impact Window Installation?
Our own crews. Storm Pro does not use subcontractors. The team brings more than 50 years of combined window and door installation experience, and the company that measures your home is the one that installs your windows and backs the work with a lifetime workmanship warranty. See our warranty page.

What Are the Steps of Impact Window Installation?
Step 1: Free quote
We visit your home or meet you at our Tarpon Springs or Fort Myers showroom to talk through styles, frames, glass, and colors.
Step 2: Precise measurement
Every window is custom made, so each opening is measured individually. We note the design pressure each opening needs and check bedroom openings for emergency escape rules.
Step 3: Permit and product approval
Replacing windows requires a building permit in Florida jurisdictions. Storm Pro secures the permit and submits the Florida Product Approval or Miami-Dade NOA for each window. Condo and HOA owners may also need association approval; see our condo and HOA guide.
Step 4: Custom manufacturing
Windows are built to order. Typical lead time is and varies by brand, style, and season.
Step 5: Prep
The crew lays drop cloths to protect floors and furniture and sets up at each opening.
Step 6: Remove the old windows
Old units come out carefully and are recycled when possible. We inspect the exposed framing and will never install into rotted or structurally unsound frames.
Step 7: Set and anchor
Each window is set level and plumb and anchored with the fastener type, spacing, and embedment in its product approval. This is what lets it perform at its rated design pressure.
Step 8: Seal and trim
We seal the window to keep out water and air, then finish interior and exterior trim.
Step 9: Final inspection
The building department inspects the work to close the permit. We coordinate it.
Step 10: Cleanup and walkthrough
We clean up, walk through the windows with you, and show you how to operate and care for them.
How Long Does Impact Window Installation Take?
Time on site depends on the number of windows, their sizes and styles, and the condition of the openings. Door installs are typically completed in one day; see impact door installation. We give you an estimated schedule when we confirm your install date.

How Should You Prepare for Impact Window Installation?
Move furniture and valuables a few feet from each window.
Take down blinds, curtains, and rods.
Clear a path from the driveway to each opening and trim back shrubs.
Keep pets and children away from work areas.
Disarm window alarm sensors and tell your alarm company.
Tell us about HOA rules on work hours or parking.
What If the Crew Finds Rotted Framing?
Humidity and failed seals on older windows can hide water damage around openings. Anchoring a new impact window into compromised framing would undercut the protection you are paying for, so Storm Pro will not do it. If an opening needs repair, we explain what we found and the options before continuing. Read Impact Windows for Older Florida Homes: What You Need to Know Before You Upgrade.
What Paperwork Do You Keep Afterward?
Keep your product approval numbers, permit, and install date together. An inspector uses them to complete the Uniform Mitigation Verification Inspection Form (OIR-B1-1802), published by the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation, which supports wind mitigation insurance discounts. Approval numbers can be verified on the Florida Building Commission website.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to be home during impact window installation?
Someone should be available at the start of install day to let the crew in and review the plan, and at the end for the walkthrough. Whether you need to stay all day depends on the project.
Who pulls the permit for my new windows?
Storm Pro secures the building permit and submits the product approval paperwork for each window. We also coordinate the final inspection so the permit is closed properly. Learn more on our permits and building code page.
Will installation damage my stucco or drywall?
Replacement can disturb the finish around an opening, and our crew works to limit that. Any interior or exterior finish work included in your project is listed in your quote, so you know what to expect.
What happens to my old windows?
Our crew removes and hauls them away as part of the job and recycles materials when possible. You do not need a dumpster or to arrange disposal, and we do a thorough cleanup before we leave.
Is my impact window installation covered by a warranty?
Yes. Storm Pro backs its installation with a lifetime workmanship warranty and a 100% satisfaction guarantee. The manufacturers of the windows we install also carry lifetime warranties on their products.
